Dental Veneers

veneersimage1.jpg

Dental veneers are an effective solution of modern cosmetic dentistry for someone with healthy teeth who is looking to improve the shape, size, or the colour of his or her teeth.

The perfect solution:

  • If you have gaps between your teeth.

  • If you have a cracked tooth

  • If the position of your teeth is compromised.

  • Or if you have stained teeth that do not respond well to teeth whitening.

Dental Veneers (or sometimes called veneers for teeth) are ultra-thin custom made layers of material bonded to the front surface of your imperfect tooth or teeth. There are many types of dental veneers but the most popular and most frequently used are porcelain veneers because of their natural appearance and their durability.

At your initial consultation, we will discuss which of those types of veneers are the best option for you having in mind your oral health, the desired smile you want, the functionality of the teeth, your specific needs and of course the cost of the veneers. Your oral health is a crucial issue for obtaining veneers. Patients who are suitable for dental veneers must have a good oral health without any periodontal diseases (gum diseases such as gingivitis, periodontitis or advanced periodontitis) and also have an adequate amount of enamel.

The process for applying dental veneers is:

  • Tooth preparation where a thin layer of enamel is removed from the teeth.

  • Impressions are taken for the custom-made veneer

  • The veneer is bonded to the tooth

The aftercare for teeth veneers

A good habit to build: After obtaining your teeth veneers, you have to carefully maintain them by daily brushing and flossing and see our dentists twice a year.

A bad habit to quit: If you bite your nails or your pen, you have to stop it. When you are chewing hard object your natural teeth and your veneers will be damaged.

So ... What are veneers and what are the options available to me?

Veneers are thin custom made laminates that are permanently fixed directly to your teeth. They have been around since the 1980's and since then they have grown in popularity and now play in integral part of cosmetic dentistry. You would be surprised at the number of celebrities wearing the options we offer.

  • Veneers are used to close gaps, straighten teeth, replace worn edges or resurface discoloured teeth.

  • They are often used in conjunction with tooth whitening and orthodontics to produce that great smile!

  • There are two types: Porcelain and composite (resin) veneers.

The Positives

  • More control over position, size, shape, texture and colour because they are customised to every individual tooth in your mouth.

  • Can be a fast procedure requiring just one or two dental visits, this may mean having your new smile in a few hours or within the week.

  • Veneers are probably the most aesthetically pleasing and natural-looking restorations as porcelain veneers are among the most durable restorations in dentistry.

  • Porcelain veneers are nearly as strong as a healthy natural tooth.

The Negatives

  • More expensive than other options and the porcelain option is more expensive than a composite alternative, but it is a choice of quality.

  • They usually require some of your teeth to be reduced.

  • The process is irreversible as part of the tooth structure is removed.

  • They can chip or break (but it takes about as much force or pressure to break a porcelain veneer as it does a healthy natural tooth.

  • The tooth must be basically healthy and intact and if there is too much damage, you may require a dental crown instead.
